We’re already through five weeks of the high school football season in Acadiana.
There were a lot of teams riding momentum into week five. St. Thomas More dominated Neville and Carencro put up 71 points last week, but other teams suffered their first loss of the season. Lafayette High and Southside attempted to bounce back in week five. The week also featured The Vermilion Parish Game of the Week between Erath and Vermilion Catholic.
STM and Catholic-B.R. came down to the final seconds. The Bears won on a 34-yard field goal and delivered the Cougars their first loss of the year. The Cougars regained the lead 50-49 after a successful two-point conversion, but the Bears drove down the field for the game winner. Catholic-B.R. pulled out the road win 52-50.
There was another close game in week five. Lafayette High won their home game over Sulphur 11-10. The Mighty Lions came back from their week four loss and they improved to 4-1.
The Southside Sharks could not bounce back from their week four loss. The Acadiana Wreckin’ Rams went into Southside and pulled out the 64-14 win over the Sharks. After a hot start, Southside has now lost back-to-back games to Barbe and Acadiana.
As for the Carencro Golden Bears, they followed up their 71-point performance with another high scoring output. Carencro beat St. Martinville 58-19 on the road. The Golden Bears are now 5-1 overall and undefeated on the road this season.

The Northside Vikings beat Beau Chene 14-13.
Westgate put up 70 points for their 70-21 win over Denham Springs.
