There were a lot of Acadiana high school football programs that continued their winning ways in week three.

St. Thomas More started fast against Plaquemine, Lafayette High dominated Patterson and Southside won in dramatic fashion over Franklin.

We have to kick this off with the Southside Sharks boosting their record to 3-0 on the season after a game-winning play from Dillon Monette. Southside gets the 31-28 win as they move on to play the Barbe Buccaneers next Friday.

Lafayette High is another team to start 3-0. The Mighty Lions tumbled and rumbled their way to a 41-7 win over Patterson.

STM came out of the gates with a 30-7 lead in the first quarter and ,despite a sloppy second quarter, improved to 3-0. The Cougars defeated Plaquemine 51-16 in a game that featured scoring at all levels. STM scored on a pick six, safety and a botched Plaquemine punt. The Cougars next game will be one to watch. They will play Neville at home next Friday night.

The Carencro Golden Bears went to Sam Houston and escaped with a 42-39 win. Popcorn Prejean popped off a big kick return for 75 yards along with a pair of touchdowns to rally back from a 10-point first quarter deficit.

We’ll wrap up the roundup with the Vermilion Parish Game of the Week. It was a Vermilion Catholic blowout win. The Eagles defeated the Abbeville Wildcats 49-14. It was another sloppy game from Abbeville and Vermilion Catholic took advantage behind Drew Leger’s performance.

Other Scores Around the Area:

Barbe beat Vermilion-New Iberia 49-24.

North Vermilion pulled out a 23-22 overtime win over Ascension Episcopal.

The Church Point Bears contained the Kaplan Pirates in their 20-6 win.

Notre Dame took care of business against Comeaux High with their 28-13 win at home.

Teurlings Catholic shutout Opelousas on the road in their 42-0 win.
