The rocky relationship between the San Francisco 49ers and linebacker Aldon Smith is over.
The 49ers released Smith on Friday after the 25-year-old linebacker was arrested Thursday night on DUI, hit-and-run, and vandalism charges.
This was the third arrest on suspicion of drunken driving for Smith since he was drafted in 2011 out of Missouri.
Because Smith has had four accrued seasons, he is now a free agent. However, it is not expected for him to be picked up by any team anytime soon.
