Andre Sam is headed to the Southeastern Conference.

The former Iowa High and McNeese star defensive back has transferred to play his final season at LSU.

Sam made the announcement on social media on Thursday with a photo-graphic of him dressed in LSU’s purple and gold and the words “COMMITTED!!”

It is the second straight year that a former McNeese defensive back has transferred to play for Brian Kelly at LSU. In 2022, cornerback Colby Richardson left McNeese for LSU.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Sam played last season for the Marshall Thundering Herd of the Sun Belt Conference. He recorded 53 tackles (32 solo), 5.5 tackles for a loss, 7 pass breakups and one interception.

Prior to Marshall, Sam developed into a two-time All-Southland Conference first-team selection at McNeese. In his Cowboys career, Sam recorded 179 tackles, 3.5 tackles for a loss, five interceptions and 20 passes defended.

Back at Iowa High School, Sam was an all-state wide receiver and kick returner. His senior season he hauled in 48 passes for 775 yards and 11 touchdowns, and he also was a district champion in the long jump and a member of the 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams.

Sam had previously announced his commitment to play his final season at Tulane but reopened his recruitment after Lance Guidry left the program. Guidry had been hired in January but then left for an assistant job at Miami in February. Guidry had served as Sam’s defensive coordinator at Marshall and as his head coach at McNeese.

Sam will have one year of eligibility remaining.
