Houston rallied back from a three-run deficit in the ninth inning to improve to 23-23 for the season.
How It Happened:
The Astros put the first run up on the board in the first inning before Los Angeles scored three runs in the second.
After scoring a run in each of the third and fifth innings, the Dodgers entered the final inning with a 5-2 lead.
Houston’s Carlos Correa began the the ninth inning scoring run with a single followed by a Aledmys Diaz single. Josh Reddick hit a two-run double before Martin Maldonado hit another single for the Astros.
An error by the Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy allowed Reddick to score the game-tying run at 5. Alex Bregman gave Houston the lead with a single to centerfield, which brought in Jack Mayfield from second. Bregman scored the seventh run for the Astros off Yuli Gurriel’s sacrifice fly.
Big Number: 2
Houston entered Saturday’s matchup against the Dodgers having lost eight of their last nine matchups. They have now won two games in their last 10, but this might be the kind of win to build momentum and go above the .500 mark.
Player of the Game: Yuli Gurriel
Bregman did hit the single up center to bring home the sixth run for the Astros, which gave them the lead in the final inning. He eventually scored the seventh run to seal the victory but that was off Gurriel’s sacrifice fly. Gurriel recorded three RBIs, while going 2-of-3 on his at-bats.
