The next time you attempt to search for information on your driver’s license, be careful. The Office of Motor Vehicles in Louisiana is warning residents of imposter websites.

According to a report, fraudulent OMV websites are showing up in large numbers. Apparently, private companies are paying to host websites that offer OMV services. If you use these websites, you end up paying higher fees, and then, the sites save your personal information and will charge automatically in the future. Usually, these fake OMV sites pay Google so their site pops up first. One way to tell if the site is fake is if there are ads. Louisiana’s OMV site does not have any advertisements at all.

If you think you may have been scammed, report it to the State Police as soon as possible.
