Virtually everyone has a smartphone, and or tablet these days. It seems there’s an app for just about everything. Anything that’s almost universally popular is bound to attract an undesirable element. Smartphone apps are no exception.

If it’s on Google Play or the App Store, it must be OK, right? That’s not necessarily so. The Better Business Bureau warns there are scammers lurking there. If you’re not careful, your personal information could be compromised. You might also make online purchases & never receive the merchandise.

Here are some tips from the BBB Serving Acadiana:
Stick to the official, recognized app stores.
Don’t rely on high star ratings. They can be fake.
Read reviews…good AND bad.
Review the app’s privacy policy
Do housekeeping. Delete old apps you’re no longer using.
Watch for suspicious activity after downloading new apps.
