Big Sixth Pushes LSU Past Auburn

Posted by clintdomingue on May 18, 2018 in Blogs, Clint Domingue, Latest News

After Thursday’s disappointing loss, many LSU (33-22, 15-14 SEC) fans seemingly threw in the towel. This team certainly hasn’t given up after coming away with a 6-2 win over the Auburn Tigers (36-19, 14-15 SEC).

How It Happened

Both starting pitchers played extremely well early on in the ballgame, but Auburn broke up the stalemate in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run single by Josh Anthony. However, LSU responded with a four-run inning that was jumpstarted by an RBI single from Antoine Duplantis.

After a rain delay, LSU put up a pair of insurance runs in the ninth courtesy of Zach Watson and Antoine Duplantis.

Ma’Khail Hilliard improved to 9-4 on the year allowing two runs off of seven hits, walked two, and struck out seven in seven and a third. Todd Peterson got his fourth save, striking out three of the five he faced in one and two-thirds.

Big Number: 11

The Tigers offense looked great, especially late in the ballgame putting up 11 hits on the evening.

Player of the Game: Ma’Khail Hilliard

After a rough last couple of outings, the freshman looked great on Friday, allowing only two runs and striking out seven in seven and a third innings of work.

Next Game: Regular Season Finale; First Pitch 1 p.m.
