The Cajuns started out fast, but fizzled out just as quickly, falling to South Alabama by the score of 32-25.
After forcing a three-and-out on the Jags opening possession, the Cajuns capitalized on the short field with Jalen Nixon running it in from 18 yards out to go up 6-0 early after Stevie Artigue had his extra point blocked after it was pushed back due to false starts.
The Jags responded with a march down the field on the following drive that was capped off by a nine-yard run to go up 7-6.
Aleem Sunanon extended the Jags lead when he booted a 25-yarder through the uprights to cap off a methodical drive that took five minutes off the clock. The Jags continued to pile it on just before heading into the locker room with a short pass from Gerald Everett to Cody Clements to go up 17-7 before the half.
The Cajuns responded with a lengthy opening drive of the second half that was capped off with Eli McGuire running into the endzone from three-yards out.
The Jags kept the Cajuns at bay with a 3rd down pass from Clements who connected to Everett from seven yards out.
But the Cajuns weren’t about to go quietly into the night with Brooks Haack connecting long distance with Jamal Robinson to come within five points after a failed two-point conversion. And the Cajuns took the lead with Savion Brown getting his third interception in four games and taking it to the house to go up one point after another two-point conversion.
But the lead was short lived with Brooks Haack getting picked off by E.J. May, which gave the Jags ideal field position to score the game winner off of Xavier Johnson and Cody Clements put the final nail with a run for the two-point conversion.
The Cajuns (4-5, 3-2 Sun Belt) will return home on November 21st to take on New Mexico State (2-7, 2-3 Sun Belt) with kickoff set for 4 pm.
