Gerry Glasco and the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns began their Super Regional series with Washington tonight at Husky Stadium. Through the first three innings, the game was knotted with a pitcher’s duel. However, the fourth and fifth innings were not kind to the Cajuns as the Huskies run-ruled Louisiana 8-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The first three innings were a pitcher’s duel with no team able to get a run across the plate. Through the first three innings, Sam Landry and Ruby Meylan combined for 10 punchouts.
Washington cracked the scoreless tie in the fourth off a ground rule double from SilentRain Espinoza to make it 1-0 before the Huskies got back to back two run home runs to push the lead out to 5-0 over Louisiana.
Louisiana loaded the bases in the fifth inning thanks to a Mihyia Davis single and two walks from Stormy Kotzelnick and Lauren Allred to load the bases, but a pop-out at the warning track ends the frame.
Washington threatened again with a single from Espinoza and a double from Sydney Stewart to put runners at second and third with two outs. Alana Johnson then got a double to right field to score both runs and Johnson ended up at third on an error to make it 7-0 in the fifth. The next batter was Rylee Holtorf who singled to score Johnson and walk off the Cajuns in an 8-0 win.
BIG NUMBER: 8
Louisiana couldn’t get a run on the board, but it wasn’t for a lack of trying. The Ragin Cajuns left eight runners on base in the contest while committing two errors and giving up ten hits to Washington.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Kylee Holtorf
Holtorf was excellent for Washington, hitting a two-run homer in the fourth before getting the walk-off RBI single. She finished the contest 2-3 with three RBIs and a homer.
UP NEXT: Louisiana will put their season on the line against Washington Saturday evening at Husky Stadium. The first pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. CT
