Larry Breaux is in his seventh year with Carencro High School and is making the transition from Golden Bears defensive coordinator to now assistant principal. Breaux took some time out this week to discuss his new role at Carencro, the state of the football team and much more.

Question:  What is you current role at Carencro and how long have you been with the high school?

Answer:  I’m an assistant principal with Carencro. This is my first year as an assistant principal and seventh year here altogether.

Q: How would you describe your time with Carencro so far?

A: It’s been great. I’ve been at eight different schools in three different states. When I get to the end of this year, it’ll be the longest I’ve been at one school so it’s kind of like home now.

Q: What is it that makes it feel like home to you?

A: The people there. You have good relationships with people there and everybody welcomes you in and makes you feel like family.

Q: What is the state of Carencro football right now?

A: I think it’s definitely on the rise. There’s a lot of rich history in the program. We had a couple of down years, going through a cycle of having young players. You go through that every school year but it’s getting to the point now where some of those young players are maturing. I’m expecting to have a good season this year and another few good years coming up.

Q: What is one thing about the team that impresses you so much this season?

A: Just the way they play. They play hard for all four quarters every game. It really doesn’t matter what the score is they’re going to give you 100 percent every play, regardless of the outcome.

Q: What would you say you’re doing to make it as exciting as possible to be at Carencro with your role?

A: As an assistant principal, the first description of that job is to assist the principal. I feel like I’m there to not just assist the principal but to help the teachers, help the students, the coaches, the custodians and everybody that has anything to do with the school.

Q: In your eyes, what does it mean to be a Carencro Golden Bear?

A: To be a Carencro Golden Bear just means to give everything you’ve got and never give up. It’s knowing you can achieve whatever you put your mind to.
