Get to Know a Golden Bear: Q&A with Kendrell Williams

Posted by clintdomingue on October 23, 2020 in Blogs, Carencro Football, Clint Domingue, High School Sports
Carencro running back Kendrell Williams.

One of the key cogs for the Carencro Golden Bears recent success has been running back Kendrell Williams.  A verbal commit for the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns, Williams has been pushing the Bears towards the top of the Class 4A power rankings. When you look at what he’s done throughout his career, it’s no wonder why this team is performing at such a high level in 2020.

Question: How has this team blocked out the noise with starting the season 3-0?

Answer: We’ve just been focused in on Monday-Thursday prep each and every week. We know that any team could trip us up, especially as we get ready for district play because there’s so many talented teams.

Q: With this being your senior season, how big is it for you to go out on a positive note?

A: It’s important for me to help send this senior class out on a positive note because we have so many seniors on this team. We see the state championship plaque in the gym every day and we know that we haven’t won one in football over the last 20 years. I want to help get this team up to the Dome for our entire senior class.

Q: Your running mate Popcorn Prejean is back after a torn ACL last season, how great is it to have him back at full strength?

A: It means a whole lot because the scouting report goes crazy. Teams don’t know who is going to get the football. It could be me, Tavion, Popcorn. There are so many options on offense that makes us tough to prep for. Having him back changes the entire game for us.

Q: Sticking with Popcorn Prejean, what’s the relationship like between you two?A: I really can’t explain it. Coach (Tony) Courville says we are always arguing with each other but at the end of the day it’s all love.

Q: Back in the summer you committed to the Ragin Cajuns program. What was the big thing that had made you say this was the time to commit to the culture that Billy Napier and crew have established?

A: It felt like the right time for me to commit because of the uncertainty with COVID-19. There was a lot to like about the team and Coach Napier really made an impression on me.

Q: You also have been great on the track. How much has that helped you improve on the gridiron?

A: I’ve been running track all my life. I ran track even before I started playing football. Started with AAU then moved on to Hershey track. It has really helped me get better in terms of my speed. I stopped running AAU track, but still running on a regular basis to keep myself in shape.
