RAGIN CAJUNS GAMER: Louisiana Scores Early and Often In Rout of Lamar

Tuesday night looked like just another night at the office for the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns with Summer Ellyson working her magic in the circle and the offense on the way to an 8-0 win in just six innings.

How It Happened:

After retiring the Cardinals in order, the Ragin’ Cajuns offense wasted little time making an impact. Former Lamar product Kendall Talley led things off with a triple down the left-field line. Kaitlyn Alderink got her across home plate with a single straight towards the pitcher. Alissa Dalton followed that up with a single of her own that got Alderink across home plate.

Julie Rawls really put Louisiana out in front with a two-run blast to left-centerfield to make it 4-0. The Cajuns did get one more run across before the first inning ended with Raina O’Neal scoring on an attempted double steal.

After the big first inning, Summer Ellyson gave the rest of the team something to cheer for by striking out the side in the top of the second. The Cajuns then went down in order in the bottom frame.

After a scoreless third inning, Talley struck again in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI double that went down the left-field line, making it a 6-0 ballgame. Louisiana continued to pour it on int the bottom of the fifth when Sarah Hudek made it 7-0 courtesy of a no-doubt home run that went out to left-centerfield.

But it was Taylor Roman that finished off the big night offensively with a solo shot to right-center to seal Ellyson’s perfect game.

Big Number: 12

After about one week of play, the Lamar Cardinals need to work on their fielding. In only five games of play, Lamar has 12 errors. That’s almost unheard of.

Player of the Game: Summer Ellyson

The senior pitcher was in the zone on Tuesday night, striking out a whopping 11 batters on the way to her third win of this young season.
