LSU Comes Up Huge with Wild Win Over Auburn

Posted by clintdomingue on May 23, 2019 in Blogs, Clint Domingue, Latest News

The LSU Tigers have always made things interesting when they travel to Hoover, Alabama for the SEC Tournament. That tradition continued with a finish that needed to be seen to be believed to get LSU past Auburn in a 4-3 win.

How It Happened:

Zach Watson got LSU out in front early on after a grounder to Edouard Julien that got Josh Smith across home plate.

The score remained 1-0 until the 7th when Kason Howell put the Plainsmen on the board with RBI single. Judd Ward followed things up with a doubled down the left field line to take a 2-1 lead. LSU responded though with Josh Smith hitting an RBI single to center field to even things up at two runs apiece.

Auburn took control of the ballgame once again when Julien hit an RBI single to score Matt Scheffler. Things got interesting in the bottom of the ninth with a leadoff single by Giovanni DiGiacomo followed up by a single by Saul Garza that he advanced to second on the throw.

After Brandt Broussard lined out to left, one of the weirdest plays in college baseball happened and gave the Tigers the win. Words can’t do what happened on the diamond justice, so here’s the final play in all of its glory.

Big Number: 9

The number nine was all over the place on the stat sheet. Auburn had nine hits, stranded nine batters, and LSU’s pitching staff struck out nine on the afternoon.

Player of the Game: Landon Marceaux

The numbers usually tell you who was the player of the game, but considering everything that happened on Wednesday night/Thursday morning Landon Marceaux 6 ⅔ innings pitched was absolutely huge and saved some arms for tomorrow night.

Up Next: Friday vs Vandy or Mississippi State; First Pitch at 6:30 pm

Programming note regarding tomorrow’s ballgame: LSU will be broadcast on our sister station The Rewind 97.7 FM, 1330 AM, and 104.1 FM in Lake Charles.
