LSU Position Preview: Offensive Line

Posted by clintdomingue on July 28, 2016 in Clint Domingue, Featured, Latest News

O-Line Preview

Welcome everyone to the latest edition of the LSU Position Preview! This week, we wrap up the offensive side of the ball and look at the offensive line.

Who Left After Last Season?

Only one offensive lineman left and it was a major player in Vadal Alexander. Alexander was one of those standout players that really bolstered the line in 2015. His presence will be missed.

Who’s Coming Back?

LSU may have lost a key player on the offensive line, but there are a few players that are coming back that could play a major role on this team. The most intriguing battle has to be at the most important position on the line, the center. Will Clapp and Ethan Pocic both saw time last season, but which one will be getting the ball to Brandon Harris at Lambeau Field? Honestly, I could see the Tigers going for Pocic since he has more experience being a senior, but he has some versatility also seeing time at guard, so it could be a rotation between the two. Also expect Maea Teuhema and Josh Boutte to control the guard position when training camp starts. There’s just so much depth on the offensive line, it’s almost silly. Five juniors and seniors coming back is a very good look for an offensive line, not only for this upcoming season but for 2017.

The Other Guys

The incoming freshman class has a few names to watch out for in 2016 and beyond. Jakori Savage is a player to see potentially make waves if someone gets injured. Another name to look out for is Chidi Okeke.  But as mentioned previously, the amount of players that are juniors and seniors on this team right now could see more than enough time on the field and give the young bucks time to adapt to the playbook.

Conclusion

The LSU offensive line has a lot of depth and could be a force in the next couple of seasons with players like Jakori Savage and Chidi Okeke being highly touted freshmen who could be given time to develop.
