The LSU Tigers have seen 6 players selected through the first 10 rounds of the 2017 MLB Draft.  Alex Lange led the way for the Tigers, being selected by reigning World Series Champions the Chicago Cubs in the 1st round with the 30th overall pick.  Following less than 10 picks later, Greg Deichmann was the first SEC player off the board in round 2; chosen with the 43rd overall pick by the Oakland Athletics.

After the conclusion of Day 1 in this years MLB Draft, the SEC sat atop the list of conferences with the most players selected.  Only players being drafted straight out of high school posted a higher number of selections…

-HS: 12
-SEC: 7
-ACC: 5
-American: 2
-Big West/MVC/Pac-12/JUCO: 1

Day 2 of the MLB Draft was just as kind to 4 other Tigers hoping to hear their name called.  LSU’s middle infield duo of Kramer Robertson and Cole Freeman were both selected in the 4th round; with Robertson going at pick 124 to the Cardinals and Freeman being drafted 9 picks later, 133, by the Washington Nationals.  Later in Day 2, LSU starting pitcher Jared Poche and his battery mate Michael Papierski were both picked up in the 9th round.  Poche will join fellow Tiger Greg Deichmann in the Athletics farm system after he was picked by Oakland with the 261st pick.  The final LSU player drafted through the first 10 rounds was switch hitting catcher Michael Papierski.  Pap was taken at the 271st overall pick by the Houston Astros.

After rounds 1-10 of the 2017 MLB Draft,  the SEC has seen 10 more players selected than the next closest conference.  Both LSU and Kentucky lead the way among SEC schools.  The Tigers and Wildcats each had 6 players chosen by the end of round 10.

-SEC: 36
-ACC: 26
-Pac 12: 21
-Big 12: 17
-Big 10: 9
-Other D1 Conferences: 97
