After a lengthy rain delay, the LSU Tigers (16-8, 3-2 SEC) were able to hand Vanderbilt (16-7, 4-1 SEC) their first loss in SEC play by the score of 6-2.
How It Happened
LSU’s Antoine Duplantis wasted little time getting the Tigers on the board with a two-out solo shot out to right center in the top of the first. Daniel Cabrera increased their lead in the top of the second with an RBI triple, followed by an RBI double from Chris Reid making it 3-0.
The Commodores responded in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single from JJ Bleday to make it 3-1 after six complete. However, the Tigers responded in the seventh with a pair of RBI singles from Hal Hughes and Brandt Broussard.
The Tigers finished the job in the eighth with another RBI single, this time from Beau Jordan to make it 6-2.
Caleb Gilbert improved to 3-1 on the year allowing three runs off of six hits, walked three, and struck out four in six innings of work.
Big Number: 15
This ballgame was delayed in the top of the eighth due to weather for about 15 hours. However, nothing changed for the Commodores, not getting a hit in the ninth inning.
Player of the Game: Antoine Duplantis
Duplantis has been Mr. Consistency throughout his time as a Tiger and Saturday was a prime example of that, going three of five with a home run in the first. That certainly deserves the honor of being the player of the game.
