MECHE’S FRIDAY FIVE: What to Watch for in Saints-Bengals Game

The Black and Gold were able to get back into the win column after a heroic effort by one Taysom Hill. The Saints will be back in the comforts of Caesar’s Superdome for a second week as they host Joe Burrow and the 2-3 Cincinnati Bengals. Here are five things to look out for in this Week 6 matchup:

1) BENGALS O-LINE VS SAINTS DEFENSIVE LINE:

Cam Jordan and the Saints’ defensive line have sacked opposing quarterbacks three times each of the last three games. Burrow has been sacked 18 times in his five games played so far. Running back Joe Mixon’s effectiveness in the run game and the quick passes will help slow down that pass rush to give the former LSU Tiger more time to connect with his receivers downfield.

2) LSU AND SAINTS FANS:

Burrow will forever be in the hearts of Tiger fans. This weekend’s game will test LSU and the Saints and see where their ultimate loyalty lies as the Bengals’ signal caller ended his college as a National Champion. There are still expected to be many Saints fans in the building, but how many will show up in Cincinnati and LSU Burrow jerseys?

3) ROLE OF TAYSOM HILL:

Hill played a major factor in the win last Sunday for the Saints. The Saints Army Knife had success early and coach Dennis Allen stuck with it. How productive the New Orleans tight end is will be factored by how the game will flow and if he will be needed to give a jolt to the offense.

4) HOW DO INJURIES PLAY A FACTOR:

Another game week, another practice week of hurt players as the Black and Gold have been filling out the injury list. We’ve seen the receivers for the Saints go down in a hurry and look much like they did in 2021 last Sunday versus the Seahawks as Jarvis Landry, Deonte Harty, and Michael Thomas are out. Others like Marhson Lattimore and Payton Turner are also out. If the Saints want to win, they’ll need production out of the regular starters and those who will be filling in.

5) CINCINNATI WR ROOM VS SAINTS CB ROOM:

There’s no doubt the Bengals have a talented wide receiver room, highlighted by a college teammate of Burrows in Ja’Marr Chase. Tee Higgins has been a stud since he entered the league and Tyler Boyd is one of the better slot guys. Lattimore is great against the big-body pass catchers while second-year guy Paulson Adebo has been solid to start and is getting better as he gets more reps. Bradley Roby is another option for the Saints depending on the matchup.

Kickoff is scheduled for Sunday, October 16th at 12:00.
