Lewis Cook has been bestowed plenty of honors in a career that has spanned four decades.
In 34 seasons as a high school head football coach, Cook has led three different high schools (Rayne, Crowley, Notre Dame) to 32 state playoff appearances, compiled an overall record of 357-82, won 24 district titles, advanced to 13 state championship games and won five state titles — including four of those with the Pios.
Cook, who also spent eight seasons as an assistant coach at UL, has been named the LSWA Coach of the Year six times in three different classes and was inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in 2018.
Cook picked up yet another this week when the New Orleans Saints honored the Louisiana legend as their High School Coach of the Year. Cook received his award in a ceremony held at Impastato’s on Wednesday from Saints senior offensive assistant Curtis Johnson.
Cook is coming off a season in which he led the Pios to an undefeated 13-0 season that was capped with a 42-21 win over Catholic High of New Iberia in the Division III state championship game.
