Led by a strong second-half performance by senior
Skyler Goodwin, the University of Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns won their
eighth-straight game with a 72-61 win over Arkansas State on Saturday inside the Cajundome.

How It Happened:
With the game tied 5-5, UL’s Makayia Hallmon hit a three-pointer that
ignited a 11-3 run for the Ragin’ Cajuns. With 4:37 left in the opening
quarter, UL held a 18-6 lead.

Arkansas State responded by closing out the quarter
with an 8-0 run to tie the game 16-16.

UL jumped out to a three-point lead to start the
second but Arkansas State responded and the two teams would go back-and-forth but the Red Wolves enter halftime with a 31-27 lead.

With Peyton Martin’s jumper with 5:16 left in the third, Arkansas State held an eight-point lead over UL. The Ragin’ Cajuns would wipe away that deficit as Hallmon hit a three-pointer, followed by back-to-back jumpers by Skyler Goodwin.

Arkansas State answered right back and once again pushed its lead back up to as many as seven points. Entering the fourth, UL trailed 49-45.

The final period is when the Ragin’ Cajuns played their best basketball. It began with a layup by Kimberly Burton and then followed by more Goodwin — as the Ragin’ Cajuns senior made a second-chance jumper to tie the game and then took the lead by a pair of free throws. Goodwin
scored 21 of her 24 points in the second half.

UL pushed its lead to five and then later six after a three-point play by Goodwin. With 4:04 left in the game, UL held a 61-56 lead.

The Ragin’ Cajuns would maintain control the rest of the way and outscored the Red Wolves 10-4 in the final two minutes.

Big Number: 40.3

The Ragin’ Cajuns shot well from the field on Saturday. After shooting only 28 percent in Friday’s win, the team bounced back by shooting 40.3 percent from the field in Saturday’s win, including 43.8 percent from three-point range.

Player of the Game: Skyler Goodwin

The Ragin’ Cajuns senior had only three points in the first half but that didn’t stop her from leading all scorers with 24 points. Goodwin made 8-of-18 shots from the field and was perfect from the free throw line making all seven of her free throw attempts.

Up Next: UL (9-5, 8-1 SBC) will return to
action on Monday when the team hosts UTA. Tip is set for 4 p.m.
