Schmidt Throws Another Gem to Take Down UT Arlington

Posted by clintdomingue on April 6, 2018 in Blogs, Latest News

It’s safe to say that the change in the weekend rotation has paid off immediate dividends for the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (14-16, 4-6 Sun Belt) as they came away with a 2-0 win over UT Arlington (14-14, 6-3 Sun Belt) thanks to a strong showing by Colten Schmidt.

How It Happened

The Cajuns got on the board in the bottom of the fifth thanks to Jonathan Windham coming up huge with a two-out single, scoring Zach LaFleur. Daniel Lahare was able to make it 2-0 in the eighth, capitalizing off of a fielding error by the Mavericks shortstop.

Schmidt improved to 3-0 on the season, throwing eight shutout innings. He allowing only three hits, walked one, and struck out 10 batters on the evening. Logan Stoelke got his eighth save of the season, allowing two hits in the ninth.

Big Number: 10

Schmidt was close to perfect on the evening, striking out a whopping ten batters in what was very much a pitcher’s duel with neither team getting in the double figures in hits.

Player of the Game: Colten Schmidt

Again, 10 strikeouts over eight innings. That’s good enough for player of the game honors.

Next Up: Game Two; First Pitch at 6 pm
