Days after falling to Houston in the 2022 Independence Bowl, two Louisiana defensive stars have announced their future plans.

Safety Bralen Trahan and linebacker Kris Moncrief both declared for the 2023 NFL Draft following their final game playing for the Vermilion and White. Two of the key leaders on the Cajuns’ defense, both players are primed to have big offseasons in hopes of getting selected by one of 32 NFL teams in a seven-round draft.

Trahan leaves the Vermilion and White with 13 career interceptions, which ranks second among active FBS players. The Acadiana High product also has 208 career tackles, two forced and recovered fumbles, and a kick blocked.

Moncrief, a five-year player for the Cajuns, has been a force as a linebacker-edge rusher hybrid during his career, racking up 195 tackles. From Raleigh, Mississippi, Moncrief also has 12.5 sacks in his career as well as two interceptions and two forced and recovered fumbles.

Both players are hoping to have similar fates to that of Percy Butler, who was drafted by the Washington Commanders in the fourth round a year ago.
