Young spent two seasons with the Ragin’ Cajuns. He pitched 54.1 innings and recorded a 4.80 ERA in his first season at UL. In his senior year, Young pitched 24.2 innings and struck out 37 batters. He improved his ERA to 1.08 in his final year.
Before playing for the Ragin’ Cajuns, Young spent two years at Howard Community College where he was named an All-Conference pitcher in 2017.
Young attended Lumberton High School in Texas. He guided his team to the playoffs and earned First Team All-District pitcher and district MVP in 2015.
The news comes after UL shortstop Hayden Cantrelle was drafted in the 5th round of the 2020 MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers. Young signed a free agent contract after going undrafted in the shortened edition of this year’s draft.
