The LSU baseball team tied the weekend series earlier Saturday afternoon as the Tigers 10-run ruled Arkansas in seven innings by a score of 12-2. Both teams came back for the rubber match early Saturday evening as the Tigers took over midway through to beat the Razorbacks 14-5 and improve to 21-3 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Jared Wegner opened the game with a solo home run on LSU pitcher Thatcher Hurd with two outs and a 1-2 count. Brady Slavens hit a double with Jace Bohrofen, Kendall Diggs, and Caleb Cali all getting walked as Slavens scored to give Arkansas the early two-run advantage.

Dylan Crews tied the game with a two-run shot over the center-field wall at the bottom of the first inning after Tre’ Morgan was previously walked.

The Razorbacks would retake the lead at the top of the third as Bohrofen hit a single to first baseman Morgan, who couldn’t corral the ball when it was hit to him. Diggs was hit by a pitch and Cali brought them both home with an RBI double deep into center field. After that, Griffin Herring came in for Hurd, who finished the day with three strikeouts and four hits and runs given up.

Followed by getting hit by a pitch, Gavin Dugas advanced to second off a wild pitch and scored on Crews’ RBI double. Crews would score himself as Cade Beloso smacked a single to tie the game at four.

At the bottom of the fourth, LSU took their first lead of the game started the inning with a triple, and scored as Brayden Jobert made it to first on a fielding error. Dugas followed that with a two-run shot over the left-field wall to take the three-run advantage. Tommy White capped off the inning with a three-run homer to make it 10-4.

Arkansas cut their deficit down by one at the top of the fifth as pinch hitter Reese Robinett drove in Bohrofen with a sacrifice out to first base.

At the bottom of the sixth, Dugas and Crews were walked while Morgan hit a single to make the bases loaded with no outs. White proceeded to hit a grand slam to give LSU the nine-run lead.

Riley Cooper finished it off as the relief pitcher in the final inning for the Tigers as LSU took game three and the series over Arkansas on Saturday night 14-5.

BIG NUMBER: 4

LSU as a team hit four home runs and 11 hits en route to their 21st win and second SEC series win of the season.

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Tommy White

Tommy Tanks continued to earn his name as his two hits resulted in a three-run home run and a grand slam. White’s seven RBI put his total to 34 on the season as the Tigers took down the Razorbacks 14-5.

UP NEXT: The LSU Tigers baseball team will be back at Alex Box Stadium on Tuesday, March 28th as they host Grambling. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 and the action can be heard on The Game 103.7 Lafayette and 104.1 Lake Charles.
